I was given this book as a freshman in college ...

I was given this book as a freshman in college where I played for a Division I school. Actually, every player on the pitching staff was given the book. Understanding my own self doubt and being able take advantage of the situation clearly helped me become one of the top 5 ERA leaders in the country my junior year in college. I have read the book every year to understand and manage the self doubt I feel when the pressure of a situations mounts. Reading one chapter of the book will allow any serious ballplayer to recognize the principles and words the book is portraying. This book is a must read for any competitive spirit, whether it be sports or professional life, because it incorporates all those fears you have always encountered and shows you how to control them and use them to your advantage. In fact, as a litigation lawyer, I often read a couple of chapters of the book before going to trial.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Secret Regrets is a great read that can be relevant to anyone! The book is compiled of regrets by real people who posted on the online blog. Also in the book, are the comments left by others giving support and love to those in pain. The book is intense- it is real. The comments of encouragement are uplifting and give hope. Even if you don't believe you live your life with regret, you will find yourself in many of these passages. I recommend to anyone, of all ages, all walks of life.

Have you ever come across a book that is intense and moving enough it becomes too hard to read more than a few pages at a time? This was that book for me. Many of the stories were very moving. Hansen's forum allows us to take a multi-generational journey into the secret regrets of the lives of others who could literally be your next door neighbor, your co-worker, your relative, or even your best friend. I believe reading the regrets compiled in this book, combined with the support of those who have responded to them, are the right ingredients for readers to consider being more bold and courageous in their own lives, and to think about experiencing life with less regret.

This book an awesome book to read!! It gives you the opportunity to peer into the lives and regrets of REAL people! Some of these stories are sad, happy, heart breaking and in most cases very heart warming! I highly recommend it. It truly does help you to appreciate your own life and help you realize that your own regrets may not actually be that bad in comparison! You really do end up feeling for some of these people and even in some cases will understand and feel their regrets just as much as they do!

Well put together Kevin Hansen and surely can't wait for Volume 2!

The Best Reference Guide on Marijuana Ever Created

That headline may sound like I'm trying to sell the book, but it really is a comprehensive, exhaustive and highly detailed reference manual that covers every aspect of marijuana horticulture from A to Z.

Over 500 pages (all in full color) and arranged in color-coded sections to help you navigate the abundance of information. I may be wrong, but there does not seem to be a particular order for these sections, but this book isn't meant to be a guide for novices that holds your hand in explaining how the plant grows all the way through to the harvest and cure. Don't get me wrong, all of that information and more is in the book, but it's not put together in a natural flow from equipment to seed to harvest. It's more of an encyclopedia that includes everything - you just have to find it.

Tons of color photographs and lots of great illustrations sometimes do a better job of explaining things than the text itself, but if you're a visual person like me, you're greatly appreciate that approach.

I dock it one star for two reasons. It has more than a few ads interspersed throughout the guide selling certain products. I've never seen that done and it seems like a biased approach. It's a $30 book, so the ads seem unnecessary. More importantly, I sometimes found it difficult to sift through 500 pages to find the information I was looking for. The info is in there, but given the sheer amount of information, you can spend a lot of time trying to find what you want.

I'm constantly referring to this book, so if you're serious about growing, you must buy this book. You don't need to read it cover to cover, but you'll need it far more than you think you will.

As I mentioned, this isn't a 1-2-3 "learn how to grow book" and that's a good thing. If you're just starting out or just considering building your own grow op, I highly recommend Grow Great Marijuana: An Uncomplicated Guide to Growing the World's Finest Cannabis, which is a no-nonsense guide to learning how the plant grows, what equipment you need and how to work through your first grow. You really need both books, especially if you're just starting out.

There is no greater written resource for someone interested in growing their own marijuana. From seeds to clones, indoors and out, hydro and soil mix, Jorge has the all the goods to get you through to harvest. The photos are excellent and the print quality of this book is the best I've seen. Of special note, check out the nutrient deficiency section; It's been a life-saver for many people. The detailed photos will help identify specific deficiencies, underfeeding and overfeeding as well as pH problems and pest diagnosis and control.

Jorge is a mentor to all those interested in cannabis cultivation (including myself). His writing is clear and succinct. His photos are amazing. Easily the best grow book ever!

Jorge's new book is easily the best grow book ever. I have a large collection of cannabis books and am also the author of The Cannabible series. There is no other grow book ever made that even compares to this masterpiece. A must have in every growers collection! Every question you could possibly have will be answered clearly in this book, whether you are an indoor or outdoor grower. The book is laid out beautifully with TONS of photos. Part III takes up applications to simple systems and further extensions of quantum theory formulation, including matrix formulation and spin and angular momentum. Parts IV and V explore the methods of approximate solution of Schrödinger's equation and the theory of scattering. In Part VI, the process of measurement is examined along with the relationship between quantum and classical concepts.
Throughout the text, Professor Bohm places strong emphasis on showing how the quantum theory can be developed in a natural way, starting from the previously existing classical theory and going step by step through the experimental facts and theoretical lines of reasoning which led to replacement of the classical theory by the quantum theory.

A Crystal-Clear Gem of a Book-- Lucid and Insightful

Don't let the original 1950's publication date fool you. This book is as relevant and important today as it was when it was first published.
In fact, Bohm's lucid, pointed three-page preface-- in which he outlines in simple English the three exact ways Quantum Mechanics differs from Classical Mechanics (which I had never seen done before and which few physics students ever really grasp)-- that ALONE is worth the price of this book.
Let me help you understand why, without reservation, I feel this book to be a masterpiece of clarity in exposition.
When I first learned Quantum Mechanics-- and, as I have come to learn, my experience was not atypical-- it was basically axiomatic: "Here are these mathematical techniques. If we do this and that and then that to this function, then we can predict certain things about experimental results." I found this a tremendously difficult-- not to mention frustrating-- way of learning things. Mathematically intense, but with little physical understanding.
I memorized the rules, and did OK in my courses, but what I really wanted to know was: WHY was I doing these things? Where did this stuff COME from? And, most importantly, what did this stuff MEAN?
I got bits and pieces-- only hints, really-- from several other textbooks. When I got to grad school, I was excited to finally learn what it all meant. Unfortunately, my grad course was more of the same type of calculation-- just calculating more difficult things! In fact, I had almost given up at really understanding what it all MEANT, and was ready to take my graduate Quantum professor's advice to "Just learn the techniques and use the stuff" when I came across David Bohm.
In a textbook that is more wordy than most novels-- and yet, in which not a single noun is extraneous or out of place-- Bohm takes us on a clear and exciting tour of WHERE Quantum Mechanics comes from, exactly HOW it developed from Classical Mechanics, exactly how it DIFFERS from Classical Mechanics, and, finally, what it all MEANS physically.
He does this by consistantly referring to experiment, by devloping mathematical techniques as necessary, and by discussing and explaining in clear prose what such concepts as the wave function actually MEAN.
It is difficult to overemphasize how comfortable one feels reading this book--- you feel that you are being guided with a firm yet gentle hand by one who truly understands what it means to truly EXPLAIN something. (For all the praise that is heaped on such texs as the Feynman Lectures and Landau and Lifshitz, they can't shake a stick at Bohm's abilities at lucidity in exposition.)
Finally, after developing the traditional calculational techniques, in the last sections of the book Bohm discusses such alternatives as the "hidden variable" theory in balanced yet intriguing ways, and leaves you wanting more.
If I am disappointed in anything, it would be only this:

Quantum Theory as the Unorthodoxy of David Bohm

Most textbooks on quantum theory begin with the basic equations of the theory and then move rapidly into problem solving and applications. It is a mark of Bohm's unique approach here that the fundamental equation of quantum theory Schrodinger's equation, does not appear until the bottom of page 191. For almost two hundred pages Bohm takes the reader step-by-step through the same sort of experiments and arguments that first convinced physicists that classical physics could no longer adequately represent the new realities introduced by quantum physics, and thus must be replaced by something radically different. Also, to Bohm's credit, when mathematics is introduced, it never goes beyond the level accessible to any undergraduate who has completed a first year college course in physics. We can see clearly here that unlike in the case of Einstein's theory of relativity, which becomes a limiting case for Newtonian physics, quantum physics is not a limiting case to classical physics. Only in the last two chapters does Bohm turn to the difficulties of measurement, which underscores this important fact and is also where the mathematics gets much scarier. But even here he shows that quantum results must always be expressed in the language and meanings of classical physics, since it presupposes the classical paradigm, even if it is not a limiting case.

To his credit, and even though the approach he used here was severely criticized, Bohm never accepted the pedagogical orthodoxy of his Berkeley and Princeton colleagues, who insisted on introducing the quantum theory first as mathematics rather than as quantum ideas, meanings and problems that required particular mathematical solutions. Here Bohm introduces quantum theory along two tracks: first its ideas, concepts, their meanings and principles; and then the mathematical machinery needed to understand and explain them -- and that is required to solve the problems those ideas raised. In fact, as a historical footnote, his colleague and the Chairman of the Physics Department at Princeton at the time this manuscript was completed, the famous J. Robert Oppenheimer, remarked of the draft as it was being completed that "the best thing Bohm could do would be to bury it." (See page 84 of "Infinite Potential: The Life and Times of David Bohm, by F. David Peat, Helix Books, 1996).

However, Oppenheimer's comments aside, I think we must be grateful to Professor Bohm for having the patience and insight to see that the mathematics was secondary to the need for a careful introduction and explanation of the ideas, meanings and principles which are indeed primary. Taking the unorthodox approach he takes here makes this one of the most readable and understandable books on the quantum theory available, even 60 years on. Step-by-step the author shows us just how the ideas that unfolded, moved from the classical model (logically if not always directly) to the new more complex quantum model. And then, he explains why certain mathematical techniques are needed to solve the problems that arise at each juncture. For my level of understanding, this was indeed the ideal approach.

In this way, beyond a simple dependence on Fourier Analysis, which is fundamental throughout, the reader need not be worried about the mathematical techniques he will need to solve a particular problem -- at least until he gets there. When he does arrive, with this book, he will then have a firm grasp of the ideas, concepts, meanings and principles of the quantum theory to whose problems the mathematics will then be applied. It makes the study of quantum theory, more sensible, easier, and arguably, more fun. And as sensible as this approach was at the time Bohm wrote the book, it was resisted by the high priests of quantum physics. (Go figure? ) Five stars

Ted Gurr's book is the first comprehensive report of a project on Minorities at Rist which involves a global survey of over 200 politically active ethnic/communal groups. The book is set out very clearly, and from this aspect would make an ideal text for students. (Pacific Research)
